For investigators and adjusters evaluating suspicious insurance claims, a useful, though often overlooked, tool in fraud-fighting is the claim withdrawal form. Rather than a trap to catch unscrupulous claimants in the act of fraud, the withdrawal form allows the claimant an escape route. When offered a chance to pull out before more investigation or litigation ensues, most fraudulent claimants will take this easy way out, saving insurers and investigators time and money in claims handling. A signed claim withdrawal is simply a document prepared to allow the insured or claimant to withdraw a claim prior to civil litigation. The form serves the purpose of identifying the party withdrawing the claim, specifying the date, claim and or policy number of the loss; the type of loss being withdrawn; and a release by the signatory of the carrier, its representatives and investigators of any and all futur
