Mass. Diocese Seeks Ruling On Insurers’ Share Of Sex Abuse Claims

The Diocese of Springfield, Massachusetts has asked a judge to determine how much the diocese’s insurers should be accountable for in paying the settled sex abuse claims against the church, and to determine their financial responsibility for any future abuse claims. Since the abuse claims began, the diocese has paid out the settlement money rather than waiting for negotiations with insurers to come to a conclusion, and hopes that the insurers will reimburse them some of the money.
