More Than 600K Water Heaters Recalled Over Fire Hazard

More than 600,000 A.O. Smith water heaters have been recalled following the discovery they pose a fire hazard. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says the "Ultra-Low NOx" has the potential to get tears in the gas burner screen. The water heater then can produce excess heat, which can cause fires if the water heater is installed on a wood floor or another combustible surface. Wisconsin-based A.O. Smith has received six reports of fires originating from a water heater. No injuries have been reported. They say about 616,000 units are impacted in the recall. According to the CPSC, "They were sold under the American, A. O. Smith, Kenmore, Reliance, State, U.S. Craftsmaster and Whirlpool brand names and manufactured from April 8, 2011 through August 1, 2016."
